DOH-Hendry reminds the community to avoid mosquito bites by taking basic precautions. The most effective prevention for mosquito‑borne diseases is avoiding mosquito bites by using insect repellents that are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (DEET, picaridin, IR3535, and OLE/PMD), wearing long sleeves and pants, and eliminating standing water around your home. These measures significantly reduce exposure to viruses such as West Nile, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and malaria.
