Our Tuberculosis (TB) program provides a broad range of services to the people in Hendry County.

The program consists of the comprehensive case management, investigation, and testing of those exposed to an active case of TB. Directly observed medication therapy for active TB cases is conducted until the person is cured. Diagnosis and treatment recommendations are provided through the Florida Department of Health, Tuberculosis Physicians Network, ensuring the treatment until cure.

We investigate infectious Tuberculosis cases to identify contacts. A complete follow up is conducted for those exposed to TB to rule out disease and provide prophylactic therapy as indicated.

The Florida Department of Health in Hendry County conducts screenings by targeting those who are at risk and those who would be likely to complete treatment if they are infected. A basic premise of the Technical Assistance (TA) guidelines and current CDC guidelines is: A decision to test an individual is a decision to treat until completion, if that person is found to be tuberculin positive.
